Title Website Research
We’re about to start the title design research portion of this project. Everyone seems really excited about this and we’re glad that this project is getting started up. When we were told that we were going to do title research, we were a little confused. We knew what was meant by “title design”, but we had no idea which movies had the titles we needed, and where we could watch them. Then one of our members found these websites!
- One of them is called “watchthetitles.com” and it has a plethora of titles for us to look at. The website has lots of ways to organize your searches. The first way it has to access titles is through recommended titles, which seems to organize recent, or classic title designs. Another way is by individual designers or through studios, which could be useful for tracking trends within or between studios. You can also view all title sequences, or go by type. This type of organization is probably good for someone looking for some spontaneous inspiration. The type of title sequence we need is one for a feature film, so all of us will be researching under that category, looking for action movies. Another interesting aspect of the website comes up when you click on a title sequence. An article of sorts comes up, which gives information about the movie itself, and its designer. It’s a great tool for further research and to confirm that we’re within our genre.
- There’s another website called “artofthetitle.com” with a similar search format. This website is designed quite differently. While it has some of the same search methods, it’s missing a section that separates by type of title. This implies that all titles featured on the website are feature-length films, but just in case we’ll be more careful with our research. Another interesting aspect of this website is that it has features. Essentially it categorizes titles and some other film-related subjects into lists, such as “top of 2020” or listing all title sequences of a certain film franchise. This feature is good for our research purposes since it provides some sort of organization. There is also a way to organize said features, but name, release date, or publishing date. While there’s a high possibility that both websites will have similar movie title designs, we’re hoping this adds variety to our research. Since the genre we chose was action, we will have to restrict our research to those films.
