The Title Design Blog

Image
TITLE DESIGN BLOG Our titles will be a mix of free-floating and embedded, actors' names and the movie title will be most likely be embedded. With regards to what items, things like personal items, street signs, or store signs are good options. Most of the production-related titles will be free-floating. This seems like a good idea to us since it will emphasize who’s on screen and who handled the background work. Having shots go to black in order to put focus on a text and build tensions in our scenes also seems like something to incorporate. In regards to font, our font needs to fit the story that we have, so something bolder would be best. Something like Gill Sans Ultra Bold, or STHupo. If we decided to go with something less bold then, Perpetua Tilting Mt would be a nice alternative. In regards to color, a black, white, or gray would be good, as a bright color would not fit, and may look garish. Overall, our titles should be with a bold or very serious-looking font and have a ne

Title Design Research: Daredevil (2003)

Image
Movie: Daredevil (2003) Website: watchthetitles Genre: Action 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? During the opening scene, only 3 types of titles are shown. The company, 4 starring actors, and the movie’s title. It was very short and straight to the point.   2. What connotations do the images carry?   The images revolve around dark cityscapes with bright windows that contrast strongly. The bright windows also often turn into braille. These images carry the connotation of a somewhat dark and dramatic storyline, with tension to the story being told. Braille carries the connotation of blindless playing an important part in the story being told.   3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?   I can tell that this movie was an action movie through the soundtrack and setting shown. The soundtrack is a violin playing somewhat dark and dramatic notes, which fits with the typical soundtrack scene in action

The majority of the images are that of buildings that seemingly tower over readers, guns, and the streets of a city. This gives viewers the feeling of a sort of power struggle.  How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? Title Website Research

Image
We’re about to start the title design research portion of this project. Everyone seems really excited about this and we’re glad that this project is getting started up. When we were told that we were going to do title research, we were a little confused. We knew what was meant by “title design”, but we had no idea which movies had the titles we needed, and where we could watch them. Then one of our members found these websites! - One of them is called “watchthetitles.com” and it has a plethora of titles for us to look at. The website has lots of ways to organize your searches. The first way it has to access titles is through recommended titles, which seems to organize recent, or classic title designs. Another way is by individual designers or through studios, which could be useful for tracking trends within or between studios. You can also view all title sequences, or go by type. This type of organization is probably good for someone looking for some spontaneous inspiration. The
