Hey! This is the first time I've written a production blog for this project. I am super excited. This blog will discuss the songs that my group and I chose to incorporate in our film, as well as how we went about doing so. The music selections are related to/correspond to the pitch that my group and I chose. Last but not least, Pitch is a young Black girl who sees her closest friend's terrible death and vows to seek justice. When my teammates began looking for music, they wanted something that fit our tone and plot well. When my partner Kayla came up with the concept, she instantly thought of a plot and began considering music options. The songs chosen for the film tell a tale about our experiences as Black and Brown people in America. It describes our daily problems in society and the issues we face on a daily basis. With our video, my team and I truly want to deconstruct a tale. Something that was detailed and allowed the viewers to not only see but also hear what was going on. H.E.R's "I Can't Breathe," Kendrick Lamar's "Alright," Bobby Sessions' was more than ideal for our film. In addition, "The Hate You Give," Lil Baby's "The Bigger Picture," Meek Mill's "Stay Woke," Childish Gambino's "This is American," and Cynthia Erivo's "Stand Up" were the songs picked. These artists were chosen because their music connected with the theme of the film. The songs also made my group and I feel a connection. This is something that we hope the audience will feel too. The message is strong and perfectly aligns with our brand and storyline. Ariel and Kayla, two of my group members, have already contacted two of these musicians, H.E.R. and Kendrick Lamar. Kayla has already begun composing the emails to be addressed to Bobbi Sessions and Meek Mill. Ariel and Kayla intend to analyze those communications and deliver them, along with the remaining correspondence, to the artists and their teams in the coming days. Kayla will also be contacting these musicians via social media ( Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
