Action: Genre Conventions Research

Examples-

  • Tenet

  • Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

  • Ready Player One

Camera Angles and Movements

Close up shots of characters' faces/important objects

POV shots of surroundings

Over the Shoulder shots to show tension

Medium close ups for action scenes

Tracking Shots to follow characters

Long shots only use to establish scene

Short quick shots

Fight/Action packed scenes rapidly switch angles

Mis-En-Scene

C- Mostly realistic, but vary heavily depending on the storyline

L-Natural lighting

A-Characters speak realistically, are often aggressive towards the protagonist

M- Realistic make-up, action is very male-centric, so little to none

P- Weaponry, or any other real-life items

S- Depends on the storyline, but usually in urban areas, no nature seen

Sound

High pitched sounds during intense moments/when the protagonist feels fear

Tense non-diegetic background music

Diegetic sound is powerful, impacts are heard loud and clear

Editing

Jump cuts are really common

Reverse shots are also scene

Action matching for fight scenes

Generally, POV and tracking shots would work well with our pitch, as well as the sound and editing. The Mis-en-scene(CLAMPS), also works well with our pitch, due to the realism and flexibility we have with it. However, the over-the-shoulder shots and action matching may require more work.
