My CR For The Short Film

My CR Essay For The Short Film

A short film about bullying can effectively represent social groups and issues by highlighting the various power dynamics at play within a school or community setting. The film can depict how bullying often arises out of a desire to establish dominance over others, and how this can be reinforced by social hierarchies and group dynamics. By portraying these complex social dynamics in a realistic and nuanced way, a short film about bullying can spark important conversations about the ways in which social structures and systems contribute to bullying, and how we can work together as a community to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

Our Film uses the issue of bullying to show the audience the importance of sticking up for yourself. To this day, bullying is a major problem in society. It is seen mostly in schools, however, it can happen in the workplace, playground, or home. Bullying that occurs at school usually extends outside of school. This means that bullies will continue to torment their victims outside of school in public or usually private places. Our short film takes place in a park that is secluded. In our short film, The Flower, Aria is convinced that nothing can be done about her bullies. This causes Aria to suffer from anxiety, which is something that many kids her age struggle with- especially when it comes to dealing with a social issue like bullying. In the short film, she ‘meets’ Emma, and her perspective is completely flipped upside down. With the help of Emma, Aria stands up to her bullies!

One thing unique about our film is the use of flashbacks. This sets out films apart from other films because we use elements that are similar in our film but they have different meanings. When the audience sees this, things might start to ‘click’ for them. For example, at the end of the film, Aria realizes that everything that Emma said, she said. This means that Emma was not real! Obviously, Aria was shocked by this discovery. During the flashback, my teammate, Charlie, used a grayish filter to emphasize that this is a flashback. Another element that was used in our production work that is unique is our use of foreshadowing. For those who do not know, foreshadowing is a literary device that directors use to allude to a later point in their film. In this case, our foreshadowing alludes to the plot twist. One common example of foreshadowing is when a character in a film makes a joke about an unseen event and the event comes true in the film. However, this is not the case for our short film. As the film neared the end, you can hear Emma imply that Aria did all the work. For example, Emma tells Aria, "It was all you...you have the power to stand up for yourself." This may help the audience realize that Emma was not really there. This clear indication may not be caught on by those who are watching the short film for the first time. However, once things "click" for an audience member, they may remember this scene of our short film and realize that it was foreshadowing the plot twist.

Our short film engages the audience emotionally. An emotional short film has the ability to engage with the audience by evoking strong feelings and emotions in the viewers. This can be achieved through the use of various techniques such as music, visuals, and storytelling that resonate with the audience on a deep emotional level. For example, a short film that tells a heart-wrenching story of loss and grief may use music and imagery to create a somber and reflective mood that draws the audience into the story and helps them empathize with the characters.

What makes an emotional short film engaging is its ability to connect with the audience on a personal and emotional level. By tapping into universal emotions such as joy, sadness, love, and loss, the film can create a powerful emotional experience that resonates with viewers long after the credits roll. This emotional connection is what makes the film memorable and impactful, and it is what drives audiences to share and discuss the film with others, helping to spread its message and impact even further.

A story film on bullying can engage an audience emotionally by using various storytelling techniques to create a strong emotional connection between the audience and the characters in the film. From watching our main character struggle to watch them defend themselves against their bully, we have tried to keep an emotional connection between the audience and our main character, Aria.

Research on bullying has shown that victims often face a wide range of challenges when it comes to standing up to their bullies. For example, victims may fear retaliation or further harassment, may feel ashamed or embarrassed, or may not have the social support or resources to effectively address the issue. Our short film challenged conventions by not being an “ordinary” bully story. In our short film, our main character may have struggled with bullying at first, but it ends with them defending themselves with their friend. Some bully stories may end with the character defending themselves with the help of friends, but we decided to take that idea to a whole new level by showing that you have the power to stand up to the opposition when you have nobody else to do it with you. One common convention seen in our short film, The Flower, is a call to action. Short films about bullying often end with a resolution or a call to action, encouraging the audience to take a stand against bullying and make a positive difference in their communities.

In conclusion, "The Flower" is a powerful short film that effectively conveys the message that victims of bullying can find the strength to stand up for themselves and make a positive change. Through its depiction of a relatable protagonist who is initially passive and fearful but ultimately learns to assert themselves and speak out against their bully, the film offers a message of hope and empowerment that can resonate with audiences of all ages. By using a clear narrative structure, strong character development, and effective visual and auditory cues, "The Flower" engages with its audience emotionally and encourages them to take action against bullying in their own lives. Overall, the film serves as a valuable contribution to the ongoing conversation about bullying and the need for greater empathy, understanding, and support for victims.
