My CR For The Short Film

My CR Essay For The Short Film           A short film about bullying can effectively represent social groups and issues by highlighting the various power dynamics at play within a school or community setting. The film can depict how bullying often arises out of a desire to establish dominance over others, and how this can be reinforced by social hierarchies and group dynamics. By portraying these complex social dynamics in a realistic and nuanced way, a short film about bullying can spark important conversations about the ways in which social structures and systems contribute to bullying, and how we can work together as a community to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Our Film uses the issue of bullying to show the audience the importance of sticking up for yourself. To this day, bullying is a major problem in society. It is seen mostly in schools, however, it can happen in the workplace, playground, or home. Bullying t...

Concluding Production Of Our Short Film

Image
Hello! Welcome back to another blog. This experience was so fun! Cecelia, Charlie, and I worked so hard on our short film. We cannot wait to share it with you. Spring break is next week so we will be spending the time relaxing and bonding with family. I plan on going to Disney with my family! Hopefully, we can even go to a waterpark. Spring Break couldn't come any sooner! I'm so excited to go on my favorite rides. Hopefully, spring break will be peaceful and I can just relax.  The thought of not having to wake up early for a week is music to my ears. I'm excited to finally have some free time to pursue my hobbies and interests. The thought of spending a lazy afternoon by the pool or on the beach is pure bliss. I'm thrilled that I finished my production blogs on time, so I can fully enjoy my break without any looming deadlines. After Spring break, I will publish my storyboard packet! That's in about 2 weeks! We're wor...

Finishing up Filming!

Image
Good morning! Welcome back to my blog. Previously, I talked about Cecelia, Charlie, and I editing the film together. Everything has been going smoothly!  I am really happy with the results so far. However, we still have to finish filming and organize our intro. I suggested that we split up the scenes to edit. I think our biggest obstacle right now is the intro. Since it is the first thing the audience sees, it must be perfect. Even if it is not perfect, its important that we try to make it the best it can be! Therefore, I have been looking for inspiration. Apps like YouTube and Tiktok are really helpful for intro inspiration. I think that Youtube is better though. Youtube has more information and detailed step-by-step tutorials. Additionally, a lot of short films are posted on Youtube. This means that I can watch how others make their intro fit their short film. I'm so excited to see how m...

Editing Our Movie Together!

Image
Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Previously, I talked to you about how production was going. It was super fun! The vibes were amazing.  However, we did run into a problem. There are so many videos that Charlie has to edit. Cecelia and I thought that was unfair. So we came up with a really good solution. We decided to split the editing among ourselves. Cecelia and I have our own things to work on in the play. In light of this, Charlie still has most of the editing work between the three of us. However, Cecelia and I helping to edit should alleviate some stress off of Charlie. I already have Capcut on my phone since I am very interested in making cute edits! This background skill made it easier for me to help connect scenes together. I also did pretty well on transitions. Cecelia also downloaded Capcut. Together, we made a lot of progress on the editing. The hardest part is making the intro ...

How Production is Going So Far

Image
Hello! Welcome back to another blog! Previously, I talked to you about filming our short film! It was super fun. I can't wait to film more of the story!  As you can tell from the title, I will be giving you an update on how things are going right now. Charlie has a lot of good shots. Cecelia and I are worried that editing dozens and dozens of shots would be overwhelming for Charlie. We will try to find a solution! In the meantime, I will tell you how things are looking so far. So far, all the scenes look great! We may need to reshoot some but so far everything is looking amazing. We compared our film to the storyboard and it looks pretty accurate. Everything is pretty organized. The app Charlie uses to edit is called Capcut. He is always telling us how much easier it is to edit. Production has been running smoothly. Hopefully, it will continue to be like that if everything sticks ac...

Filming Time!

Image
Welcome back to another blog! Previously, I talked about Charlie becoming our editor. Now, it is time for the fun stuff. We finally found a date that was best for all of us to meet up at the park. I'm so excited!  Right before we started to film, we made sure to treat ourselves and get ice cream! Now everyone is in a good mood. I even feel more productive. Charlie said that he felt happier and more ready to tackle filming. I'm so happy that everyone was able to make it. Charlie took a lot of good shots. We went a bit over the 5-minute mark. Therefore, there will be a lot of trimming down. We were able to record most of our films before the sun got in the way. I'm glad how things came out. We just need a bit more cleaning up to do. We also have to film the ending of the short film. I will keep you posted! See you soon!

Picking Our Editor

Image
Welcome back! Thank you for tuning into my blog. Previously, I talked about taking a break from our short film's productivity. This is because we wanted to study for a major exam coming up. Fortunately, we completed our exam! I think I did very well. Now that it is over, I can focus on other things. Obviously, the short film. Things have been going great! I'm so happy I have a team of dependable people. Cecelia took the reins for the past few days. Recently, we've been talking more about roles. This includes who is going to edit. This is important because this means that the person will have to not only edit the film but use their phone to record all the scenes. My group and I had a very long discussion about who should be the editor. Factors that came into play were: camera quality, knowledge about camera movement, and phone storage. These are major factors that helped us decide that Charlie will be the editor. It makes the most se...

Delaying Production For A While Due To Major Exam

Image
Good morning! Welcome back to another blog. Previously I talked about the actors you will see in our short film. Now, I will talk about why my group and I thought it would be best to delay production for a while. We were so excited to start filming but unfortunately, things got in the way of that.  On March 1st, my team and I will be taking our SAT. The SAT is a really important test in America. It is a standardized test that colleges look at during the college admission process. Cecelia, Charlie, and I really want to do well on this test. We have been studying so hard! Studying has taken up a lot of our time. So, we have decided that it would be best to delay production for a few days. We have worked very start on our short film! Taking a break to focus on our studies will not hold our short film back. Instead, I think it will make us even more productive since we will have all those tough exams out of the way and be able to focus more on our...

The Actors Of Our Short Film

Image
Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Previously I talked about the music you'll see in our anticipated short film. Today, you will read about the actors that will be featured in our scenes!  I will also announce the roles they will be playing! I am so excited to announce our actors for the short film!  An actor's job is never-ending. It is one of the most important roles in making a short film. The role of an actor is to fully represent the character they are reenacting. They also have to convince the audience that the character they are playing is real. Additionally, they have to draw the audience into the story.  This may be hard at first, but with the help of me (the director), Cecelia, and Charlie, we can help our actors go above and beyond for their roles! One fun fact about our team is that Cecelia was actually a part of our school's very first theater production since the pandemic! Her insight into acting will be very important f...

Can't Stop The Music!

Image
Good morning! Welcome back to another blog made by yours truly. As you can tell by the title, I will be talking about the music in our short film. Previously, I briefly mentioned that Cecelia and I are musicians. So, naturally, music is very important to us.  To me, music is emotion- it is art. Art is an anecdote to numbness. I truly believe that. I do not want the short film to be emotionless and cold. I want it to have life and color! I believe that music will bring about a different kind of detail in our short film.  Music is more than just want you can hear. It can tell you about the characters and evoke a specific emotion. Most importantly, it can influence a viewer's interpretation of a scene and foreshadow certain events. This is crucial for our short film. There will be a lot of foreshadowing in our short film and different emotions throughout the short film. Therefore,...

Continuing Production Process The Best We Can

Image
Welcome back to another blog! Previously I talked about how my team and I were unable to film. This really put a dent in our plans. It has been hard to arrange a proper filming date for our Short Film. Everyone is pretty busy.  This is very frustrating but I understand that this season there are many major projects people are working on. For example, Charlie has a super important competition that he and his teammates have been working on. Cecelia has a music ensemble performance to work on. I also have to practice for my music solo. Arranging dates for production has humbled me a bit.                 I understand that life gets in the way. We can't do everything we want to in such a limited time slot. This is why I plan on moving the filming day a little further. This does not mean that we will stop production. In fact, production is only getting started! We still have a lot of ...

Raincheck On Production

Image
Hi there and welcome to my second production blog! Previously I told you about the props we bought from Target. Charlie, Cecelia, and I were so excited to start filming today. Unfortunately, we could not. We did not predict that today would rain. This blog is titled "Raincheck", which is very ironic. I did not think we could receive bad weather in such a sunny month like February! Obviously, I was proven wrong. February has been such a busy month for my team and me. We should have looked at the weather report for today. However, we will learn from our massive mistake a plan better!            The next time we start filming, I will make sure to review all the factors involved. This includes: whether the park is open, the weather, and the availability of our actors. I will especially try to find a date that is best for Charlie and Cecelia since they have a lot of important events coming up. Today was really th...

Starting Production!

Image
Good morning! I am so excited to finally start production with my team. This week we decided to focus on props. Props are very important in our film. It will help us paint the story in our film. Another reason why I believe props are crucial to our film is the fact that it helps the set the scene in the setting. The park is our setting for our short film. Charlie, Cecelia, and I decided that using props that fit the park would provide the audience with context needed to understand the story. There have been many cases in which the lack of props made it harder for the audience to understand the story. I do not want that in our film. To get the props, me, Charlie, and Cecelia went to Target. We got a lot of props that we felt would help tell our short film's story. There are many objects that have great significance in out story. This includes: posters, flowers, and of course props for our actors to use. After we got these props, I have been feeling...

The Storyboard For Our Short Film

Image
Making this storyboard was so much fun! Click this blog to view the Storyboard Google Slides! Scene 1: Establishes the park, where the main character is upset about a recent event in which she got bullied at school. The first scene immediately introduces both main characters, as well as the conflict regarding bullying and mental health.  Scene 2: This scene is still at the park, Aria notices a girl at the park b a bench, she decides to walk up to her. Scene 3: Aria and this new strange girl at the park start talking, and become friends, at this time Aria is still upset about what had happened at school earlier. Scene 4: Emma, the ghost, questions her and is curious as to what happened, this leads to the backstory, a cut to school, where it is revealed that Aria has been getting bullied, Emma notices this serious situation. Scene 5: Emma talks to Aria, and tries to spark confidence in her, to stand up to the bullies, this creates a long conversation in which they find a bench, to si...

Planning For Our Short Film

Image
Schedule: We have decided what the schedule for filming and creating should be for the short movie. For planning, we each have very different schedules and it was hard to organize who should be doing what and when to film. So far for the following week, we will be figuring out health safety protocols we should go to so we don't get each other sick. We will be wearing masks and making sure to bring our own food and not get too close and get each other sick. We already have Zahra doing the storyboard so we will have it done by February third. We have decided on costumes that it will be regular teen wear, stuff you would see a teen wearing in today's time, except for Emma who will be wearing more dated clothes to match her death date. By next Wednesday we will have finished with props and have them designed and ready. For the props, we were going to use a design website and edit it so it looks like an old lost poster. We will also be deciding whether or not we want to create a fak...

Our Screenplay For The Short Film

Image
S ettings: park  Time setting: 2022  Script:  (We open in on the park with a fade in with sounds of birds in the background. It's a bright and sunny day and we open in on a young girl walking by herself through the park. She appears sad and alone with a frown on her face. We do a zoom in to her where we keep on her walking through the park. We see her sighing and while walking deeper into the park she almost runs into another girl) Aria( nervous and frantic): I am SO sorry, i wasn't looking a-and i completely got distracted and-.  Random girl ( calm and smiling): hey, hey , hey, calm down. It's fine don't worry I get it we all get distracted.  Aria: Oh thank you, I kind of lost myself.  Random  girl: don't worry, but are you okay?  Aria (in warily tone): yeah, im fine dont worry about it, i'll be fine  ( with teary eyes the girl cleary tries to hold it together but we zoom out and see that she falls to the ground and starts crying uncontrolla...

Short Film Research: Gwafi/Drama

Image
This short film research was a true story that revolved around "loss and reincarnation," after the main character's friend passed away. The main character deals with depression as she tried to move past her traumatic experience trying to save her friend from death. Here are some common camera angles that were used in this film: Close-up: close-up shots focused on specific characters or objects used in the film to show the emotion or expression of a character. This angle is particularly effective in this film because it allows the audience to connect with the character on a deeper level. Medium shot: medium shots capture the upper body and part of the surroundings of the subject in this film. This angle is used to show the body language and facial expressions of the characters, as well as their relationships with other characters. Long shot: long shots in this film capture the entire body of the subject and shows the character in their environment. This angle is used to ...

Short Film Research: Bus44/ Drama

Image
The short film watched today was "bus 44" which is a film about a bus which gets robbed on the road and turns to a dramatic ending. It takes place in another country, which makes it have another language. I looked thorough all the elements in the film and here is what I found. Common Sound in the film The most common sounds in the genre are the diegetic sound and dialogue. All the sounds in short film originate from the story world. The sounds do help make the film because even with no music you can still feel the emotion and dramatic turn in the story. The lack of sound if anything adds more which makes the film even more drama filled. The sound, while lacking, is still really good.   Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in the film the common CLAMPS in the film are props, costumes, and acting. The acting in the film is dramatic and tear wrenching as you watch the actors go through this situation on the bus. The way the bus driver acts after going through such a trauma...

Short Film Research: Last Three Minutes/Drama

Image
Common Sound in your genre      Abrupt sounds were used throughout the film. Melodic sounds were also used. This creates a soft but also engaging contrast to the film. The sounds used in this short film created an airy atmosphere. This gives the audience the impression that the main character is reminiscing but also living through the events.  Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre      The outfits of the characters in their designated scenes fit the settings. In one scene, one can see parents outside. The sun is bright and they are wearing countryside attire. Additionally, all the props fit the scenes except one outlier- the crystal shard.  Common Editing in your genre      The short film slowly transitions to other scenes. This gives the audience a sense of peace. Watching the main character’s memories gently drift by tells the audience that he is at peace. It is only at the end of the short film that the scene cuts s...
